NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has furthered his relationship with pizza delivery giant Papa John’s by investing in nine of the chain’s Atlanta restaurants.
The investment will improve the nine existing stores, with one restaurant, located on Georgia Tech University’s main campus, undergoing a remodelling process.
The remodelling incorporates several elements designed by the basketball star, including a custom “444-SHAQ” phone number, basketball-inspired pizza art, and O’Neal’s signature and footprints.
O’Neal is already a member of the company’s board of directors, and is also set to become an ambassador for the brand in the near future.
And he claimed that he was thrilled to be taking his investment in the chain to the next level.
He said: “My investment shows my commitment to the company and was a natural fit. I’ve been a fan of Papa John’s pizza since my days playing basketball at LSU. I could not be prouder of what we have in store for Atlanta as we strive to deliver the city a great pizza experience.”
Papa John’s CEO, Steve Ritchie, welcomed the investment. He said: “Papa John’s franchisees are entrepreneurs who have a shared passion for pizza and the communities they serve. Shaquille is no exception.
“Shaquille’s experience in the restaurant industry and his love for our products make him a welcome addition to our team.”
