Representatives from McDonald’s and The Cheesecake Factory have won awards for showing excellence and innovation in food safety.
The awards, part of the 2019 Food Safety Summit in Rosemount, Illinois, were presented by the Sani Professional Food Safety Advisory Council, and are designed to promote best practices in the foodservice industry for leadership, education and training, and employee and guest experience programs.
The Cheesecake Factory food safety team won the Outstanding Food Safety Program Innovation accolade, whilst Cindy Jiang, McDonald’s senior director of global food and packaging safety took the prize for Leadership in Food Safety.
The Cheesecake Factory team won due to vastly improved performance in health inspections since the development and implementation of the Hazel Analytics Food Safety Insights Systems
The team’s leader, and vice president of food safety & quality assurance at The Cheesecake Factory, Dr Al Baroudi, one a special prize for his role, being named a Food Safety Champion.
Jiang’s award was a result of “her exceptional commitment and dedication in advancing food safety through leadership, standard setting, collaboration, and sharing best practices in the food industry.”
She was credited for playing a key role in introducing “Food Safety Week” and “Food Safety Fair” at the McDonald’s organisation globally and for her work towards the development of the Global Food Safety Initiatives Global Market Program which is used across food companies around the world.
