Restaurant sales growth may be result of warm January weather, report suggests


Strong restaurant sales growth for the month of January 2020 may be the result of an unseasonably mild winter, a new report suggests.

Black Box Intelligence data says that same-store sales growth was 2.3% for the first month of the new decade, while same-store traffic growth was -0.7%, the highest growth since August 2018.

The outside factor of the weather, the report suggests, means that proprietors should not put too much stock in the sales growth as anything other than a temporary improvement.

Black Box Intelligence’s data is based on weekly sales from over 47,000 restaurants.
