Read Henny Penny CEO’s inspiring letter to employees

Henny Penny

Henny Penny CEO Rob Connelly has called on his colleagues to use the coronavirus crisis as an opportunity to distance the company from its competition in an inspiring personal letter sent to employees.

Mr Connelly – whose firm is one of the largest commercial fryer makers in the world and employs 600 staff – said that while “things may be terrible”, the situation is only temporary and the company would get through it as a team.

He said it was normal for people to “wonder if it’s ever going to be okay again” but his confidence that the business would overcome the challenges presented to it was “based on the most likely scenario”.

“We are a strong company. We have the best group of customers in the world. When they start thriving again, we will thrive with them,” he wrote.

Just two weeks ago, Henny Penny finished the first quarter ahead of plan. But the company, which supplies fryers to some of the biggest restaurant chains in the world, has had to contend with temporarily closing its manufacturing facility (from 23 March to 6 April) and face up to the fact that new equipment purchases have slowed.

But Mr Connelly told staff concerned about the situation that “the world won’t be closed forever, and when the world heals and recovers, we will be there too.”

He added: “Will our 2nd quarter be tough? Yes. Will our 3rd quarter be weak? Probably. We’re a great company. We are not teetering on the edge of survival. We know the next few months will be different as we begin to understand the impact of Covid-19 on our sales, orders, production, and business.

“We are in this together, and I know we will get through this together. And when we look back on these days we will say, ‘Well that was crazy, but we got through it together’.”

Mr Connelly ended the note by saying he was inspired by people working hard, taking care of each other and finding the best way to support colleagues and customers with an “upbeat, can-do attitude”.
