The National Restaurant Association (NRA) has highlighted the importance of strong food-safety management system, as National Food Safety Month gets underway.
It says that making sure employees know and understand food safety best practices is vital to the health of both customers and business and that adherence to a food safety plan starts with a strong food-safety management system.
The 2019 National Food Safety Month theme is “Controlling Risk: The Elements of a Food Safety Management System,” with the campaign kicking off on September 1.
Throughout the month the NRA will offer free, downloadable resources to help reinforce the importance of food safety to all staff members.
Education aids include free training activities, quizzes, great posters that can be deployed to reinforce proper food safety practices and procedures in operations.
Sherman Brown, the NRA’s executive vice president of training and certification, said: “The Food and Drug Administration’s Risk Factor Study indicates that having a well-developed food safety management system is the strongest predictor that an operation will have fewer occurrences of foodborne illness issues
“This year we’re emphasizing the importance of having a solid food safety management system as a framework for keeping guests, employees, and the business safe.”
