Californian equipment agency Hodak plots new future

EMC Hospitality has acquired Hodak Sales Inc. in the Southern California market.

The collaboration will bring the two agencies together selling both heavy foodservice equipment and light equipment as well as smallwares and tabletop items.

The move comes hot on the heels of the merger between PCH Solutions and Cuffari Marketing Group at the end of last year, which led to the creation of EMC.

Managing partner, Michael Hartman, said the two organisations have been in discussions for a lengthy period of time.

“When the industry shut down due to the pandemic, we paused our acquisition and temporarily changed to a strategic alliance.

“This alliance gave us an opportunity over the last couple of years to work side by side together. What became rapidly apparent was that our two agencies not only worked well together during some of the most challenging times in hospitality, but started to thrive together as the industry opened back up.”

Hartman described Hodak as a “legacy brand” in Southern California and said it would seek to honor what it has accomplished in the region. “That is why we will be keeping the Hodak name as a division of our equipment offerings at EMC SoCal.”

Hodak was established in 1959 and was one of the first manufacturer representative groups on the West Coast.

Its staff consists of three outside sales associates and two inside sales people. Hodak operates out of a 3,800 square feet commercial test kitchen and warehouse in Huntington Beach.

Director of equipment sales, Roy Hodak, said: “Hodak Sales is a mature, dynamic and professional organisation specialising in heavy cooking equipment for all facets of the restaurant industry.

“By combining our focus with EMC, we blend our back of the house expertise and culinary experience with the front of the house small wares and counter top cooking products to complete a full service offering for end users, consultants, design dealers and floor stocking dealers.”

He added: “Working with EMC and their team will enhance our coverage of equipment sales opportunities as well as enhancing the small wares sales through cross selling brands to all of our collective dealers and new end-user opportunities.”

EMC Hospitality will now cover the entire West Coast from California to Alaska and Hawaii. It currently has seven outside sales associates and two inside sales people covering the Southern California market. In total, EMC has 22 people covering the West Coast.
