Alto-Shaam hires Unilever chef to further its international growth plans

Wisconsin foodservice manufacturer Alto-Shaam is stepping up its activities in the Middle East after hiring Jean van der Westhuizen as its new culinary and sales manager for the region.

Van der Westhuizen is tasked with developing and implementing Alto-Shaam’s regional sales plan, along with creating strategies to manage and grow sales accounts by market segment and oversee the culinary kitchen in Dubai, including A Taste of Alto-Shaam live events, seminars and tradeshows.

Gabriel Estrella Talenti, Alto-Shaam director of sales MEA, said: “Jean has considerable experience in the hospitality and culinary industry, demonstrated by his work across South and North Africa, South Asia and over 10 years in the Middle East.”

Prior to joining Alto-Shaam, Van der Westhuizen was a corporate executive chef at Unilever Food Solutions where he was responsible for mentoring and supporting nine other chefs to achieve their key performance Indicators, with a proven track record of developing key accounts.  

He said: “Alto-Shaam has a portfolio of products and solutions that are ideal for the Middle East market. I look forward to helping dealers and customers understand how the benefits of the solutions can convert to profits for their businesses. I’m very pleased to join Alto-Shaam and I am looking forward to helping the business achieve its ambitions in the Middle East.”
